Since
photographs
are the
easiest
and
quickest
way of
conveying
information
to a
wide
section
of the
public,
ISRA has
arranged
three
mobile
exhibitions.
While
each of
the
first
two
exhibitions
contained
13
displays
with
commentaries
in
English
and
Arabic,
the
third
contained
15
displays
with
commentaries
in
English
only.
The
three
exhibitions
were the
work of
the
leading
photographer
Jak
Kilby.
Kilby
has
spent
much
time in
Islamicjerusalem.
He has a
collection
of
thousands
of
slides
of
Islamicjerusalem
and has
illustrated
many
exhibitions
on the
subject
-
The
first
exhibition
(1997),
entitled
“The
Crown
of the
Holy
City:
Al-Aqsa
Mosque
in
Islamicjerusalem”,
sought
to
correct
the
common
misconception
that
Al-Aqsa
Mosque
is the
same
as the
Dome
of the
Rock.
In
fact,
the
latter
is
only
part
of Al-Aqsa
Mosque,
which
covers
an
area
of
144.9
dunums
(1
dunum
=
approx.
1000
square
metres).
-
The
second
exhibition
(1998),
entitled
“Islamicjerusalem:
Continuation
of
Muslim
Presence”,
sought
to
illustrate
the
uninterrupted
presence
of
Muslims
in
Islamicjerusalem
since
the
first
Muslim
conquest
of the
region
by the
Caliph
Umar
Ibn
al-Khattab.
-
The
third
exhibition
(2002),
entitled
“Islamicjerusalem:
Lands
of the
Prophets”,
sought
to
show
the
connections
of the
Prophets
and
their
followers
with
Islamicjerusalem.

All the
exhibitions
are now
on
display
for
public
viewing
in the
Shaikh
Maktoum
Exhibition
Area at
the Al-Maktoum
Institute
in
Dundee.

Copies
of the
exhibitions
are
available
for hire
by
organisations,
schools
or
institutions.
If you
are
interested
in
hiring
either
of these
exhibitions,
please
contact
the
Academy.
